New Gallery in Kassel
23-01-30 | In 1877, Neue Galerie (New Gallery), the town’s art museum, was built at the top of Schöne Aussicht. Standing on its loggia and gazing down towards Fuldaaue, an amazing landscape view, no less fascinating than the museum’s artwork itself, unfolds before the eye.
Throughout documenta, New Gallery serves as an important exhibition site for the work of participating documenta Artists. Objects hosted by the museum beyond the days of the event, are moved or placed off view for the duration of the exhibition, with one exception: the installation “Das Rudel“ by famous German Artist Joseph Beuys remains in its place on the ground floor and can be seen throughout documenta 14. Joseph Beuys had originally designed this very exhibition room by himself.
The world art exhibition documenta can now be found in the Neue Galerie as a permanent exhibition entitled about documenta.
